If you reported STP from other software earlier in the financial year and re-entered or imported that year's pay data into Exacc, tell the ATO in the first STP you send from Exacc: in the Single Touch Payroll dialog choose Report transfer and enter the Previous BMS ID. Otherwise each employee shows twice at the ATO, once per software.

In Exacc: Payroll › Manage Payroll

Before you start

  • This applies when you processed and reported STP for the business in other software, changed to Exacc during the same financial year, and entered or imported that year's pay data so it appears as year-to-date figures on payslips.
  • Your previous software's BMS ID (Business Management Software ID). Your previous provider can tell you what it is. Do not enter Exacc's own BMS ID (ExaccAu86643294937).
  • The business file linked to the ATO, and permission to lodge STP (see Lodge STP and amend a pay event).

1. Open your first finalised pay event in Exacc

Approve the first pay event you run in Exacc and open it (Payroll › Manage Payroll): Payroll Event Summary - Finalised. Click Single Touch Payroll (STP).

The transfer section only shows until the first STP report is sent from this business file.

2. Report the transfer

Under Report transfer of payroll to Exacc, choose Report transfer (one of the two options must be chosen) and enter the Previous BMS ID, which is required.

  • Report transfer - you moved from other software during this financial year and re-entered its pay data in Exacc.
  • Not required - see "When you do not need to report it" below.
  • Previous BMS (required) - the BMS ID of the software you reported STP from before Exacc.

3. Send it

Click Send STP Report to ATO. Exacc sends it as an update event that names your previous software, and includes every employee paid in this financial year, so the ATO continues their year-to-date figures instead of adding a second record. Check the ATO's answer as for any STP report.

When you do not need to report it

Choose Not required when:

  • you changed software at the end of a financial year: you finished one year in the old software and start the next year in Exacc;
  • the earlier pay data was entered in Exacc as not reportable (for example as journals) or excluded from reporting.

Finalise the old software

In those cases, make sure the payroll reported from your old software is finalised there.
