On the employee's Employment tab set the Finish Date, Cessation Code and Status, and use Payout calculation for an estimate. Pay them in a pay event with Final Pay Event ticked, adding unused leave and any lump sums as pay items, then lodge STP so the ATO knows they have left.
1. Record that they are leaving
Open the employee, Employment tab. Set Finish Date and the Cessation Code (the reason: voluntary, ill health, deceased, redundancy, dismissal, contract end or transfer). Change Status too: the ATO is only told they left once the status is no longer Active.
2. Estimate the payout
Payout calculation opens the Termination payment report: notice, annual leave balance, long service leave and redundancy weeks. It is an estimate ("Not all payments will apply"): it leaves out annual leave loading, and long service leave rules differ by state.
3. Pay them
In their last pay event, open the employee and tick Final Pay Event. Add the payout items: unused leave and any employment termination or lump-sum payments, using pay items with the right STP reporting group. Approve, pay and lodge STP.
