Exacc shows the ATO's message where you lodged: on the pay event for STP, in History on the activity statement for BAS. Most rejections come from the ATO link (your SSID is missing from Access Manager) or from data the ATO needs, such as an employee's TFN or address. If you are stuck, send support the business file, the form, the period and the exact error text.
1. Find the ATO's message
STP: on the finalised pay event, the STP status line shows Sent to ATO and awaiting response, then Sent and accepted by ATO or Error - ATO message: …. You also get an "ATO submission report" email.
BAS: on the activity statement in Business › Tax Docs, Validate checks it with the ATO before you lodge. After Lodge, the ATO's acceptance or rejection message is in History.
TPAR: lodge it from Business › Tax Docs with Lodge via SBR. You can also download the file and upload it in the ATO's portal.
2. Fix Exacc's own checks first
Before anything goes to the ATO, Exacc checks the data. For STP, "{n} errors found - see Warnings for details" lists what to fix: a missing TFN, address or pay item reporting group, for example. Fix those and send again.
3. Check the ATO link
An authorisation error usually means the ATO does not know this business uses Exacc. In Business Details › ATO, check that the tab says You are linked to the ATO. Then log in to the ATO's Access Manager and check that My hosted software services still lists Exacc with your SSID; add it again if it is missing (see Link Exacc to the ATO).
Tax and BAS agents lodging for clients link their subscriber account (practice) instead, on the Link Subscriber to ATO tab, using the practice's ABN in Access Manager.
4. Correct and resend
For STP, Reopen Pay Event, fix the data, approve it again and send STP again as an amendment (see Lodge STP and amend a pay event). For BAS, fix the figures, then Complete, Validate and Lodge again.
STP sends one lodgement at a time ("There is already a STP lodgement in progress"), and a pay event cannot be lodged 350 days or more after its pay date.
Demo files
Lodging with the ATO is turned off in demo business files.
What to send Exacc support

- the form: STP pay event, BAS or TPAR;
- the period, for example the pay date or the BAS quarter;

What never to send
Never send your password, authenticator or SMS codes, myID details or full tax file numbers. Exacc support never asks for them.
