Open Business Details › Online Payments and click Set up eWAY. The eWAY screen has three steps: paste the API Key and Password from your eWAY account, choose where card payments are recorded, and switch on Offer card payments to my customers. Customers then pay on eWAY's own secure page and Exacc records each payment against the invoice.

In Exacc: Manage › Configuration › Business Details › Online Payments › Set up eWAY

Before you start

  • A live eWAY merchant account (MYeWAY login).
  • In your chart of accounts: a clearing account (current asset) for card payments and a customer prepayments account (liability). Create them first if you do not have them.

1. Copy the API key from eWAY

In MYeWAY, go to My Account › API Key. Copy the API Key and its Password. This is the API password shown next to the key, not your MYeWAY login password. Ignore Pay Now Button Public API Key and Client Side Encryption Key: they are for other eWAY products.

2. 1. Your eWAY account

In Exacc, open Manage › Configuration › Business Details, the Online Payments tab, then Set up eWAY. Paste the key and password, optionally change What your customers see (default "Credit or debit card"), and click Save and check. Exacc checks the key with eWAY before saving it; the key is never shown again.

  • API Key (required) - from MYeWAY › My Account › API Key.
  • Password (required) - the API password beside the key, not your login password.
  • What your customers see - the name of the payment option on the invoice page.

3. 2. Where card payments are booked

Choose the three places payments go, then Save accounts. Card payments sit in the clearing account until eWAY pays them into your bank, a few days later and net of fees.

  • eWAY clearing account (current asset) (required) - where each card payment is recorded.
  • Customer prepayments account (liability) (required) - for money paid ahead of an invoice.
  • Payment method (required) - how the payment is labelled, e.g. Credit Card (eWAY).

4. 3. Offer card payments

Turn on Offer card payments to my customers. eWAY then takes card payments on your invoices; you can also pick it under Card payments on your invoices on the Online Payments tab. Turning it off takes effect immediately.

Replacing the key

Click Replace key and enter the new key and password. If the new key belongs to a different eWAY account, turn on This key is for a different eWAY account: cards customers saved against the old account can no longer be charged and are removed. For a new key on the same account, leave it off and saved cards keep working.

Reconciling

When eWAY pays out, match the bank deposit to the clearing account. The difference between the payments and the deposit is eWAY's fee; record it as a merchant fee.

Questions

Exacc says "eWAY rejected the API key". What now?

Check you copied the API password beside the key (not your MYeWAY login password), and that the key is for your live account, not the eWAY sandbox.
